Violence Research
Current and recent ILJ research on violent crime has been focused in two main areas:
- Homicide
- Violence against women
The background ILJ staff bring to these projects includes
- Prior research on gangs, guns, illegal drug markets, prosecution, courts, jails and prisons, and other relevant topics
- Experience working directly with police and other agencies to develop new case management systems and crime analysis/geographic information system (GIS) capabilities
- As part of the more than 65 ILJ police management studies, assessments of specialized police investigative and enforcement units focused on homicide and other violent crime.
- Work with hundreds of police departments as a training and technical assistance contractor to the U. S. Department of Justice (e.g., Project Safe Neighborhoods, Weed and Seed)
- Experience providing direct services to crime victims and witnesses.
